The EGP, in partnership with the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF), convened an interactive session on ‘Imagining the Future of Mining: Mapping and Considering Gender Impacts, Gaps and Policy Responses to Support Progress on the SDGs’ at the 14th Annual General Meeting of the IGF at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
This participatory and interactive session focused on how governments can identify and address gender gaps related to mining. Following presentations from the World Bank, the Government of Peru and the Natural Resource Governance Institute, delegates worked in groups to prioritize a series of cards, describing the gendered impacts of mining. After engaging discussions, participants ranked the following impacts as those of particular importance:
EGP and IGF are taking forward these results as an input for developing training and awareness building for how governments can address these issues in their mining policies.
