In 2020, the EGP-Mining continued to support countries to integrate environmental and human rights protection into the governance of the mining sector.
Country level work supported local communities affected by mining, including women, youth, and indigenous peoples. Programme activities enabled stakeholders to participate in decision-making processes as well as accessing information, justice and redress. EGP-Mining’s support to government partners contributed to develop and implement rights-based, inclusive, responsive and coherent legal and policy frameworks, as well as strategies, guidance and tools in support of multi-stakeholder dialogues and processes.
On the global level, the EGP continued to influence and inform major mining governance fora and policy debates. The programme facilitated learning and knowledge sharing platforms, and developed tools, courses and guidance materials to strengthen the capacities of government stakeholders, women and communities impacted by mining. These stakeholders includes the youth, civil society organizations as well as mining companies and associations.
