Objective: The IGF is a voluntary initiative with over 70 nations committed to leveraging mining for sustainable development to ensure negative impacts are limited and financial benefits are shared. The IGF is devoted to optimizing the benefits of mining to achieve poverty reduction, inclusive growth, social development and environmental stewardship. The IGF Annual General Meeting (AGM) provides a global forum to engage with top experts in the field and to learn about the latest developments in efforts to leverage mining for sustainable development. This year’s AGM will focus on Mining in a Changing Climate.

Objective: Overwhelming evidence shows that gender equality in mining is crucial, to maximize benefits, minimize harm and reach the Sustainable Development Goals. This session presents the need for governments to use existing guidance and tools to sensitize and train their officials, and plan and implement changes to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment in mining.
