A Young Environmental Journalist's Journey to COP27
Hassan Mowlid Yasin, 30, is a Somali climate change practitioner whose goal is to become a leader in achieving a sustainable and healthy environment for all. Born in Mogadishu, he co-founded Somali Greenpeace Association in 2019. In 2020 and 2021, he participated in the Young Environmental Journalist learning programme organised by the EGP & partners.
With support from the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance, Hassan attended the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, from November 6-18 to amplify the voices of Somali communities at the frontline of the climate crisis and coordinate youth-based climate action.
"We need a just transition approach that allows Somalia and the other Least Developed Countries to use their vast natural resources to accelerate sustainable development and green growth," explains Hassan.
